Colleges and universities have released the following information about area students.
Honors
Rebecca Elliott of Arlington has been named to the fall 2017 dean’s list at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas, for earning a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. Elliott is majoring in English.
The following University of Memphis students were recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines: Peyton Murin of Arlington; Joseph Matheny, Tristan McKenzie, Meghan Meadows, Alainee Miller, Taylor Powell and Michelle Swain, all of Lakeland; Mackenzie Mathis, Jeffrey Stokes, Kathryn Tenner, Jessica Williams and Tyler Vernon, all of Bartlett; and Jacob Milligan, Zachary Taylor and Alison Harrison, all of Memphis.
Meagan Hoard, a marketing major from Bartlett, and Madison Taylor, a communication sciences and disorders major from Arlington, were among the students inducted into Harding University’s chapter of Alpha Chi National Honor Society during a ceremony in Searcy, Ark., on March 18. Alpha Chi is a nationally affiliated society encouraging superior scholarship. Harding’s chapter, the Arkansas Eta chapter, is open to seniors with a minimum 3.75 grade-point average on 104 semester hours and to juniors with a minimum 3.85 grade-point average on 80 semester hours. It is open to graduate students who rank in the top 10 percent of their respective programs.
The following local students have been named to the fall 2017 dean’s list at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville: Gregory Fritjofson of Lakeland; Kaitlin Jordan, Linsey Jordan and Moira Mitchell, all of Arlington; and Kip Kenerly of Bartlett. To be named to the dean’s list, each non-traditional undergraduate student must have completed 12 or more hours between July 1 and Dec. 31, 2017. Students must also have attained a grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale during that time frame. Traditional undergraduate students must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and attain a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale.
Activities
Audrey O’Neill of Arlington, a student at Belmont University in Nashville, spent spring break this year traveling across the U.S. and overseas, including sites in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, in order to serve others. Her school’s mission trip program, Immersion 2018, is sponsored by University Ministries. Every Immersion trip gives participants a chance to be immersed in local culture and in the cares and concerns of local communities.
