A Bartlett man was convicted on March 14 of drunken driving, stemming from a one-vehicle crash two years ago in which his pickup truck knocked down a utility pole in East Memphis.
Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich announced that a Criminal Court jury convicted Jared Worthington, 28, following a two-day trial. He will be sentenced April 12 by Judge Bobby Carter.
The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. on July 31, 2016, on Goodlett Road just south of Grandview Avenue. His blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was measured at .141. A driver with a level of .08 is considered to be under the influence of alcohol. Worthington faces a minimum of two days in jail and 11 months and 27 days of probation.
The case was handled by Assistant District Attorneys Sam Winnig and Kenya Smith of the DA’s DUI Prosecution Task Force, whose members work with local law enforcement in efforts to reduce the number of DUI-related fatalities and injuries. Task Force prosecutors also conduct training sessions to update law enforcement officers on changes in traffic and DUI laws.
