Bartlett Police Reports for Dec. 25-31, 2017

Incidents are listed in order of the dates they were reported.


Dec. 25


Luther Road (burglary)

A woman reported that someone broke her back bedroom window while she was out of town, but nothing was taken.

U.S. 64 (theft from building)

A woman reported that a man walked into the Shell Station (8140 U.S. 64) and asked if there was any Natural light beer in the cooler. She couldn’t go into the cooler to check because she was the only employee in the store. So the man grabbed one 12-pack and two 24-packs of beer and left the store without paying for them. The suspect entered a dark gray car and left.


Dec. 26


Elmore Road (vehicle theft)

A man who left his vehicle running in the driveway while he was loading items walked back outside to find his gray 2015 Mazda 3TR hatchback ($13,000) was missing. This happened shortly before 10:23 a.m.

He saw two suspects running after the vehicle and one suspect driving it away from his home. He described them as wearing gray hoodies and gray sweatpants. Responding officers found a male suspect matching that description, and they later determined he was involved with the theft.

Officers located the vehicle at West River Trace Drive in the River Trace Apartments. The victim said a small silver pocket knife and a green iPhone 5 were missing.

North Germantown Parkway (automobile burglary)

While a couple were checking into the Hampton Inn (2935 N. Germantown Parkway) around 3:50 p.m., someone shattered their truck’s back passenger window and stole a red suitcase. The luggage contained personal clothing, a Pandora bracelet and earrings ($1,000).

The hotel personnel showed video surveillance of a white four-door vehicle with dark tinted windows and license plate covered pulling up beside the victim’s vehicle. The passenger, an unknown male, broke the window with a tool and removed the suitcase.


Dec. 27


Brunswick Road (vandalism)

A Memphis police car delivered a man to the parking lot of Lakeside Behavioral Health (2929 Brunswick Road, Lakeland) around 3 a.m. The man used the phone mounted near the entrance to contact the staff and tell them he wanted to be evaluated. While waiting, he became irate and violent. He ripped the phone and wiring out of the phone box. He also tore a metal sign out of the ground, flipped over a small park bench and used a concrete brick to break a window near the entrance.

When he walked away, another officer located him. He confessed to the damages but refused to answer any questions and said he was ready to go to jail. The officer took him to the Bartlett Police Department’s jail without incident.

Morningside Cove (vandalism)

A woman reported that someone rolled a tree in her yard with toilet paper, applied white powder to her car and applied powder and Vaseline to her boyfriend’s car overnight.


Dec. 28


Kirby Whitten Road (vandalism)

An officer on routine patrol in the Kroger parking lot (2942 Kirby Whitten Parkway) saw an SUV stuck in a small pond on the property just before 1 a.m. The driver said he tried to drive across the grassy area and his vehicle got stuck in the mud. The officer issued him a summons for damages to the grassy area.

Unspecified location (theft)

A man reported that someone stole two Christmas lights from his front lawn between 10 p.m. Dec. 27 and 6 a.m. Dec. 28.

Unspecified location (theft)

A man reported that around Dec. 22 he noticed that several gift Visa cards he received for Christmas were missing from inside his vehicle and used in various locations.


Dec. 29


U.S. 64 (theft from motor vehicle)

A man who parked at Sam’s Club (8480 U.S. 64) returned to find that someone had broken into his truck between 3:45 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. His front passenger side window was broken and the front glove compartment opened, but nothing was taken.

Video surveillance showed a white four-door vehicle with front passenger damage pull through the lot and park briefly near the victim’s vehicle and one other. The white vehicle then leaves south through the parking lot and goes to U.S. 64.

Thistle Ridge Lane (robbery of an individual)

A man agreed via Snapchat to buy a Gucci belt from someone he knew in high school. They met at the suspect’s car, which also contained two other males, and they drove to the parking lot of the Marathon gas station (4230 Altruria Road). The victim and suspect walked inside for a few minutes and returned to the vehicle, where they both got into the backseat. When the victim began counting out the money, the suspect punched him three times in the stomach and side and took $260 from his hands.

The suspect told the vehicle to get out of the vehicle to fight. They both got out, but the suspect jumped back in and drove off quickly. The victim walked home.


Dec. 30


Stage Road (memo)

A woman said she was stopped in the Bargain Hunt parking lot when an unknown female suspect approached her vehicle and began to hit her driver’s side front window with her fist. Then the suspect moved to the passenger side front window and began punching it.

The suspect then fled in a gray Toyota SUV. No physical damage was done to the victim’s car.


Dec. 30


U.S. 70 (theft)

A Sonic employee said someone stole $200-4300 from her purse. She arrived at work around 11:50 a.m. and placed her purse on a table in the break room. She last saw the money around 2:20 p.m. She looked in her purse around 3:50 p.m. and discovered that the money was missing.
