Arlington student graduates from Aviation Challenge

aviation-challengeThe Shelby County Schools district has a new reason to be proud: It’s made national headlines about winning an award for reducing classroom incidents.

Security Chief Gerald Darling said, “Last school year, we had a very good year. This year, we had a great year.”

He attributed it to multiple factors, including collaboration with the Memphis Police Department and several grants to allow MPD to assist the school district before and after school. He also said scrutiny of each incident helps the district to make adjustments to minimize the chance that specific problems will recur. Feedback from each school helps with proactive decisions on where to put resources each week, too.

“It makes a big difference when you don’t have incidents happening after school, you don’t have incidents coming in before school,” he said.
