The SBA Guys won their 4th ever and second straight state title in a thrilling comeback that saw the Eagles take the last 11 points in their win over CBHS in the finals. The 18-9 victory capped a 17-2 season. The Eagles were led by three-game winner Phillip Tovar (215), seniors Ben Murphy (254,218), Conner Nichols (three-game winner), Daniel Caprio, Spencer Ridgway and junior Nick Agnew (221,217). Junior Nic Ferrante played a huge part in the Eagles gaining the state title, too. He finishes 4th in the state in the Individual Bowling Tournament with Conner Nichols finishing 5th.
Early in the tournament, Nick Agnew was named Boys State Bowler of the Year for Division II because of his overall season performance. Prior to claiming the state title, the Eagles handily beat Pope John Paul, II, 9-8 and MUS, 20-7.
The Ladies bowled very well and came up just short in the quarters in a nail biter to GPS 15-12. They finished the year with a 10-4 record.
Head Coach Eric Wells, who received his 11th State Coach’s Award, has taken the Eagles to the state tournament every year since bowling has become TSSAA sport (16 years). The Eagles have claimed seven girls’ titles, advancing to 14 title matches and four boys’ titles after advancing to six title matches. The team has also claimed three Bowlers of the Year for overall season performance.
