Bartlett to honor vets in Nov. 11 ceremony

Mayor A. Keith McDonald and the Bartlett Board of Aldermen invite the public to attend Bartlett’s Veterans Day Ceremony in Veterans Park, located at the corner of Bartlett Road and Bartlett Boulevard, at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.

Citizens wanting to purchase bricks at the park to honor their veterans for next year’s ceremony can see more information online at cityofbartlett.org/606/Veterans-Park.

Cities, schools announce Veterans Day schedules

Area municipalities and school districts have announced schedule changes because of Veterans Day observances this Friday.

  • Bartlett: All city offices, the library, the senior center and the animal shelter will be closed on Friday. The Bartlett Recreation Center will be open for regular hours. Trash pickups in Bartlett will not be affected this week. Bartlett City Schools will be closed on Friday for the holiday.
  • Arlington: The town hall and senior citizens center will be open on Friday. The Sam T. Wilson Public Library is normally closed on Fridays and will be closed as usual on Veterans Day. Trash pickup schedules in Arlington will not be affected. Arlington Community Schools will be closed on Friday for the holiday.
  • Lakeland: City hall and the senior center will be closed on Friday. Trash pickup schedules in Lakeland will not be affected. Lakeland Elementary School will be closed on Friday for the holiday.

Tenn. breaks record with 1.6M early votes

A record-breaking 1,675,679 people voted early or cast absentee ballots across the Volunteer State’s 95 counties from Oct. 19 through Nov. 3. In Shelby County, a total of 242,309 votes were cast. More than 18,000 people cast ballots at New Bethel Church alone.
