The City of Lakeland Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications for a position on the Economic Development Commission. Applications are open through 4:30 p.m. Nov. 30.
The EDC advises the Lakeland Board of Commissioners on matters that affect the economic life of the community. It also:
- Seeks out, considers and suggests plans that define how and where the city will develop arterial, commercial, and residential areas so as to enhance the city in the eyes of its citizens as well as present and future commercial interests
- Advises the city regarding local economic issues relevant to long-term planning and development of the city
- Promotes economic stability, vigor, and balance within the business community; and encourages business retention and productivity
The members of the EDC also serve on the Lakeland Development Corporation and Industrial Development Board.
This commission meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Lakeland City Hall. The staff advisor for the EDC is Planning Director Tom Skehan.
