[Editor’s Note: This is an updated version of the story and includes additional approved School Support Organizations, a corrected amount for the soccer fields purchase and the addition of a student’s name for a reading honor.]
The Bartlett school board approved the $315,000 purchase of soccer fields from the Bartlett United Methodist Church at the board’s Sept. 22 business meeting and made the necessary budget amendments to accommodate the buy.
The 10 acres are on Ferguson Road, at the corner of Ferguson and Shelby, and they back up to W.J. Freeman Park, just across the railroad tracks from it.
Long-range plans are for the existing soccer fields to be developed into an upscale soccer complex for the school district.
At Thursday’s meeting, the board also approved the following list of School Support Organizations (SSOs) that have completed the documentation process:
- Altruria Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
- Appling Middle PTO
- Bartlett Elementary PTO
- Ellendale Elementary Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA)
- Oak Elementary PTO
- Bartlett High Girls Basketball
- Bartlett Boys Basketball
- Bartlett High Cross Country Booster
- Bartlett High Baseball Home Run Club
- Bartlett High Lacrosse
- Bartlett High Touchdown
- Bon Lin Middle Band Boosters
- Appling Chorus
- Bon Lin Middle PTSA
- Bartlett City Council PTSA
In other business, the school board also:
- Amended the FY2016-17 Education Capital Budget in order to have earnest money to acquire a new location for the central office.
- Renewed the contract for a Youth Villages’ professional development coach for Neglected and Dependent Programs.
- Noted that Bon Lin Elementary received a Kindle Fire HD and a $100 gift card for the most time spent reading in a summer program in the state, from Nashville to the state line. Jessica Hendren, Account Manager with myON (an on-line digital library from Capstone books) made the presentation to Kasandra Berry, Bon Lin Elementary principal, and Alison McGee, school librarian. Berry also honored Bon Lin Elementary student Tyler Williams with a certificate for being the student who read for the most hours during the summer.
