At-a-Glance for Sept. 29, 2016

Grab your guidebook to this weekend’s Bartlett Festival

All the cool people will be at this weekend’s Bartlett Festival, and all the rest of us should show up too for fun on Sept. 30 through Oct. 1.

It’s a good time to smell the barbecue, take a whirl on carnival rides, get the thrill of a tethered hot-air balloon ride (Friday night only!), sigh over the beautiful vehicles in the car show, hear live music and see what hometown vendors have to offer at their booths.

See our special festival guide in this issue of The Bartlett Express with all the details, including a festival map.

Time to buy pink shirts, pancake tickets

The Bartlett Fire Department has more of its famous pink shirts for sale to raise awareness about breast cancer. Stop by the Bartlett Fire Prevention Disaster Preparedness Trailer this weekend at the city’s vestival to pick up a shirt for just $15.

They will also have tickets for the popular pancake breakfast that will fire up its griddles on Oct. 8. Tickets for that charitable fundraiser are just $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and younger.

Join Bartlett Christian Writers at fall retreat

The Bartlett Christian Writers group is hosting a fall retreat Oct. 8 at Decatur Trinity Christian Church, 2449 Altruria Road, Memphis. To register, contact Elizabeth Garrett at (901) 412-5548 or bartlettwriters@gmail.com. Cost is $30 with lunch or $25 without.

Johnnie Alexander will speak on “Establishing Your Platform.” Workshops will be on the components needed to build a publishing platform, how to get publishing credit in periodicals and build a portfolio, why you need Internet presence and how to create it for free, and how to use marketing strategies for social media and networking.
