Six Bartlett businesses face possible fines, suspensions and revocation of beer permits because of violations involving selling alcohol to minors.
The Bartlett Board of Aldermen will determine the business’s fate Thursday evening. Bartlett’s regularly scheduled Tuesday evening board meeting is Thursday so aldermen could attend the National League of Cities convention in D.C .
Three Circle K’s have been cited when police went undercover on a sting operation in October of last year. Nine Bartlett locations were cited with selling to minors but three of those were for the sale of liquor, outside the Beer Board’s purview. Twenty-four businesses passed the police sting.
According to police, a 20-year old purchased a variety of alcoholic items ranging from beer to “Hard Lemonade to premixed daiquiris.
Five of the businesses were charged for the first time. They include:
Circle K, 8140 Hwy 64
Circle K, 2735 Kirby-Whitten
BP/Mike’s Stop 5984 Stage Rd.
Los Pilares, 6249 Stage Rd
Casa Perez, 6837 Hwy 70
One business, BP Station/Circle K at 8110 Hwy 64 in Bartlett was cited for the third time with the first offense in July of 2006 and the second in November of that same year.
Based on the beer board’s agreed upon guidelines, first time violators may face up to a 15-day suspension of sales or a $500 civil penalty. A second offense could include a 30-day suspension of sales or up to $1,500 in penalties.
Third time offenders may face up to revocation of the permit to sell beer up to one year.
Bartlett’s aldermen are also expected to approve the final reading of a revamped sign ordinance. The ordinance will allow greater sign footage in specific zones, provide changes in what needs to come before the aldermen and clarify a number of changes ranging from how many signs are allowed per location to seasonal plants.
