The Bartlett Police Department (BPD) handled the following incidents for the period of May 30-June 12, 2016. This listing includes the most notable incidents for the reporting period and does not necessarily reflect all police activity.
Editor’s note: All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
May 30
U.S. 70 and Stage Road(found property)
An officer found a loaded pistol and holster in the middle of a Bartlett intersection on May 30.
The officer was driving past around 10 a.m. and spotted the holstered weapon lying on the eastbound lanes at the U.S. 70 and Stage Road intersection. Both the pistol and holster were black.
Misty River Road (vandalism)
Someone cut down two U.S. flags ($30) from flagpoles in a man’s front yard on May 30. He discovered the vandalism around 11 a.m. The responding officer saw remnants of the flags still attached to the poles.
May 31
Altruria Road (theft from motor vehicle)
An unlocked pickup truck was too tempting of a target for a thief on Altruria Road.
The victim reported May 30 that his black Springfield Armory 9mm handgun and $300 cash were missing from his truck. The theft happened between 7 p.m. May 30 and 8:45 a.m. May 31.
June 1
North Street (theft)
Someone stole a 1976 Jayco Camper ($3,500) from a North Street resident on June 1. The owner described it as silver with blue painted across the top and bottom.
When she posted a photo on social media, a friend commented that the camper was last seen being pulled by a black pickup truck headed eastbound on Stage Road at Interstate 40 at 6 p.m.
Old Brownsville Road (theft)
Someone stole $1,300 worth of televisions from a home on Old Brownsville Road on June 1.
The owner said she left for work at 9:15 a.m. June 1 and returned at 9:30 p.m. that night. Her doors were locked, but the following items were missing: Two 32-inch Emerson TVs ($400 each) and a 55-inch Hisense TV ($500).
The victim was able to provide the serial number for one of the Emersons, and that data was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
June 2
Plum Hill (animal cruelty)
Bartlett Code Enforcement condemned a home after Bartlett Animal Shelter found unsanitary conditions on June 2.
The shelter was responding to a witness’s complaint about allegedly deplorable conditions for the home’s four dogs, four adult cats and two kittens (one of which has since died).
The home’s interior reportedly reeked of urine and pet feces. In one bathroom, the tub was filled with cat litter and cat feces. Inside another bathroom, cat litter was poured on the floor to be used as a litter box. Dog feces were littered throughout the home.
Code Enforcement made the scene,and immediately condemned the residence for human habitation. The residence will have to be gutted and cleaned before another inspection will occur.
U.S. 70 (theft)
Sometimes even locking property against thieves isn’t enough protection. On June 2, a victim reported a trailer stolen from Stewart Brothers (7715 U.S. 70).
He said he keeps the trailer secured with a trailer lock and parked in the rear lot, and he checks it daily. It was stolen between 6 p.m. June 1 and 5:20 p.m. June 2.
The item stolen was a 2008 silver Top Hat utility trailer ($2,500). He described it as a 20-foot tandem axle model equipped with a three-foot chrome diamond-plated triangular toolbox mounted on the tongue.
June 5
U.S. 70 (shots fired)
The Tennessee Highway Patrol station at 6348 U.S. 70 was targeted for violence the night of June 5. The THP personnel on duty reported hearing 15-20 gunshots.
Bartlett officers saw bullet holes in the front of the building, and they found 14 rifle shell casings on U.S. 70.
June 6
Honey Bee Lane (theft from motor vehicle)
Electronics left in an unlocked vehicle are an open invitation for thieves, a resident on Honey Bee Lane discovered.
The resident reported June 6 that someone stole his wife’s Samsung tablet from their unlocked vehicle parked in their driveway. The theft happened between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.
Unspecified address (animal bite)
A pit bull bit a man at a Bartlett resident’s home on June 6.
The officer met the victim at Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett (2986 Kate Bond) around 8:45 p.m.
The victim said he was working on the dog owner’s alarm system when the pit bull attacked, biting him on the leg and causing a large abrasion to his lower left leg.
June 7
Cascade Hill Cove (theft complaint)
Someone broke into two cars at a Cascade Hill Cove home on the night of June 6, and the residents reported the crime the next night.
The victim said both his car and his girlfriend’s car were targeted. Items stolen included a prescription, phone charger ($20) and $60 cash.
Bartlett Boulevard (theft from motor vehicle)
Another resident with a vehicle left unlocked discovered theft on June 7.
The victim’s son arrived at W.J. Freeman park for baseball around 3 p.m. that day with his dad’s wallet in the truck. It wasn’t until the dad retrieved his wallet from the truck around 6:30 p.m. that he realized two credit cards and one debit card were missing.
Stage Road (theft)
A customer at Planet Fitness (5740 Stage Road) said his backpack was burglarized from a secured locker on June 7.
The man arrived at the gym at 4:30 p.m., put his backpack in a locker in the men’s locker room and secured it with his own combination lock. When he returned at 5:35 p.m., his lock had been cut off and was missing, and so was $70 cash from his backpack.
Employees told the responding officer that the business has had several such incidents recently.
June 12
Stage Road (theft from motor vehicle)
Someone broke a car window and stole a purse on Stage Road June 12. The victim said he parked his car in a lot at 6418 Stage Road around 8:15 p.m. About 30 minutes later, he noticed that someone had broken the passenger side window ($300).
A tan purse ($100) stolen from the floorboard contained three credit cards, a Chinese driver’s license and Chinese passport.
Stage Road (armed robbery)
Three suspects armed with a knife and handgun robbed a man at gunpoint in the Kroger parking lot (5995 Stage Road) just before 8 p.m. June 12.
The man said he was meeting three males to sell an iPhone 6. His girlfriend drove him to the parking lot, and he got in the suspects’ vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Equinox.
One male put a knife to his throat, another put a semi-automatic handgun to his heat, and the third took everything out of his pockets, including the iPhone ($500). They left northbound on Bartlett Boulevard.
The victim, however, did get the suspect car’s license plate number, and the responding officer found that it was registered to a silver Chevrolet Equinox.
The victim described the three black male suspects as being between 18-20 years old, and one had several tattoos.
