Bartlett watercolor artist wins spot in national exhibition

“Dandelion Fun” by Dr. Tim Hacker of Bartlett was awarded Honorable Mention in the Gibson County Visual Art Association National Exhibition.

Local dentist and watercolor artist Dr. Tim Hacker of Bartlett has had two paintings accepted into the Gibson County Visual Art Association National Exhibition.

From across the U.S., 150 paintings were entered in the competition. Tom Francesconi, a credentialed expert, juried the number down to 50. Francesconi is a Signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society, and he holds a Master Status in the Transparent Watercolor Society of America.

This is the third consecutive year that Hacker has been awarded Honorable Mention in the GCVAA.

The show will hang at the Trenton City Hall through May 7.

This painting has also been accepted in the Tennessee Watercolor Society Biannual Exhibition in Knoxville in May.

About the artist

Hacker and his wife, Tammie, have lived in Bartlett for 35 years. He began studying art and painting while in high school, and he frequently demonstrates his paintng techniques to various art societies and classes.

Hacker’s artistic honors include winning the Jan Schiller Award in the Mississippi Watercolor Society Grand National Exhibition for the past two years.

He is a Signature member of the Mississipi Watercolor Society, Signature member of the Tennessee Watercolor Society, and member of the American Watercolor Society and Transparent Watercolor Society of America.

He also has achieved Platinum Artist status in the Memphis-Germantown Art League (MGAL), where he served as president during 2005-2007 and 2011-12.

The MGAL’s juried spring exhibition will be May 4-31 at the German-town Performing Arts Center with the reception at 4 p.m. on May 14.

The public is invited to view the art show and the reception.

On his website, Hacker commented on artistic vision. “Artists have the ability to see things in nature that others don’t. The artist within me see things that evoke an emotional response. Expression, mood and feeling, that something extra that you experience when you see something. I am trying to communicate that something extra so you can join me on that experiential journey.”
