Bartlett names McCallum Cooper House as historic landmark at April meeting

While Bartlett celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, it continues to add to its historic landmarks. An ordinance to name The McCallum-Cooper House at 3101 Sycamore View Road as a historic landmark passed on second reading at the city board’s April 12 meeting.

The ordinance will be final after the third reading and public hearing, set for April 26.

In other business, the board:

  • Passed a resolution to amend the FY2016 operating budget to appropriate $49,200 for education incentive pay for fire department personnel.
  • Approved closing costs to acquire right-of-way for Old Brownsville Road widening. William Moss, attorney with Harris Shelton Hanover & Walsh, will perform the 45 closings at a cost of $550 per closing. The estimated cost is $24,750, plus a contingency of $250, for a total cost of $25,000. This amount does not include any properties that would be condemned. This cost is 80 percent reimbursable by the state.
  • Accepted the lowest bid from McCrory Electric Company for upgrading an audible pedestrian signal. The bid was for $20,530 plus a contingency amount of $1,000. HDR|ICA Engineering will inspect the signal project at a cost of $110 per hour, with an estimated total cost of inspection at $2,334. The total cost of this upgrade and inspection is $23,864.
  • Approved the site plan contract for an Ave Maria Home expansion. The developer, Ave Maria Home, will pay $120,172.76 in city fees. The bond is set for $478,397.50.
  • Approved the site plan contract for a geriatric addition at Lakeside Behavioral Health Systems. The developer, Lakeside Behavioral Health System, will pay $40,518.03 in city fees. The bond is set for $232,195.
  • Approved the subdivision contract for Phase 5 of Brunswick Farms. The developer, L3 Properties LLC, will pay $230,742.23 in city fees. The bond is set for $816,385.03.
  • Approved the auction of five items of surplus property on GovDeals. com. The items were identified as having a potential auction-value of $500 or more.
  • Made the city’s annual $20,000 contribution to the county’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility.
  • Approved the purchase of a 2016 Ford F-150 truck for Bartlett Code Enforcement. The vehicle will be purchased on the state’s bid contract with Golden Circle Ford Lincoln at a cost of $22,268.42.
  • Accepted the lower bid of $20,757 for refinishing hardwood floors at Singleton Community Center. The bid was from from Goodwin Bros. Maintenance and Construction.
  • Appointed Bill Browning and Sheree Ozier to the City Beautiful Commission.
  • Accepted the Planning Commission Report for April 2016.
  • Passed a resolution to adopt the Shelby County Hazard Mitigation Plan.
