Katie Carter, LBSW, a social worker in the cardiac care unit of St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, received the 2016 Crossroads Caring More Award at an awards breakfast on March 17 at the Crescent Club in Memphis.
Carter is a staunch patient advocate who works to ensure patients receive the services and equipment they need after discharge. In addition, she works with special needs adults and young mothers.
As part of her church’s Special Adult Ministry, Carter runs an adult Sunday school and sports activities that help adults with special needs stay active and engaged in their community.
The Crossroads Caring More Award is presented annually to a social worker recommended by his or her peers for going “above and beyond” in service to patients and community.
In addition to being the guest of honor at a special awards breakfast, Carter received $500 to donate to the charity of her choice – Friends of Faith, a Bartlett, Tenn.-based day center for special need adults.
The event featured a welcome from Jean Harrison, executive director of Crossroads Hospice; the award presentation by Bill Cooper, president of Friends of Faith; and an address by Carter.
