Lakelanders skip through 1,250 Easter eggs at Saturday’s hunt

Lakeland celebrated the childlike joy of finding Easter eggs, having games and making crafts with family last weekend. The Parks and Recreation Department’s popular egg hunt on March 19 drew an estimated 200 children, who quickly picked off the city’s 1,250 colorful eggs spread out on the grass.

Inside the International Harvester Clubhouse (IHC), they sheltered from the cold weather and enjoyed other activities, including a basketball shoot, a pick-a-duck drawing from a water pool for “Bunny Bucks,” temporary tattoos, a pick-a-carrot activity, a beanbag toss and handmade bunny headbands for the craft.

Lakeland senior citizen Ande Payne hopped into the fun with her sixth appearance as the city’s official Easter bunny, high-fiving the little ones and doing some joyful hops and skips.
