Universities and colleges have released the following information about area students.
Scholarships
Alexis Burton, an Arlington resident who attends Arlington High School, was one of four students who received the merit-based Trustee Scholarship from Christian Brothers University.
It is the most prestigious academic scholarship available at CBU. It benefits outstanding students for their academic performance, requiring a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.6 and an ACT score of 28 or an SAT score of 1210. The scholarship covers full tuition and all fees.
Griffin Towne of Lakeland, an Arlington High School student, and Ryan Bowen and Earl Landicho, both Bartlett residents and students at Bartlett High School, were among the six recipients of the 2016 Pascal Fellowship scholarship at Christian Brothers University.
The Pascal Fellowship in Computer Science and Mathematics sponsored by FedEx awards students with scholarships and internship opportunities. Students must major in computer science but may double major in any other field. Preference is given to students from the region with a 30 or higher math ACT score and a minimum GPA of 3.5. Beginning this academic year, two awardees receive full four-year scholarships to CBU, offsetting all tuition and fees. Another four awardees annually receive a $9,000 scholarship toward tuition.
Honors
Three Bartlett students were named to the fall 2015 honor roll at Rhodes College in Memphis. They are Beineon Corcrain, a graduate of Arlington High School; Alaina J. Hurley, a graduate of Bolton High School; and Ryan K. Hunt, a graduate of Briarcrest Christian School. To qualify for the honor roll, a student must be enrolled in at least 16 credit hours of academic work and must achieve a semester grade point average of 3.85 or better.
Bailey Clover James of Bartlett was named to the fall 2015 president’s list at Campbellsville University in Kentucky. Recipients must achieve a 4.0 grade point average for the semester with a course load of at least 12 hours.
Internship
Nathan Brayton, a Bartlett resident and senior business administration major at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., is working this semester as an intern for automotive manufacturer BMW in Greer, S.C. Brayton is serving in BMW’s Human Resources Department and is working with international payroll, handling tax return details, and a variety of documentation tasks.
“To say that I have been learning a lot would be an understatement,” Brayton said. “When looking to hire a recent college graduate, most employers want to know what sets them apart from other candidates. I know this experience at BMW will help me stand out from other college graduates when applying for jobs after college.”
