Feb. 8

Blackheath Drive (fraud)

A caller failed to con a skeptical Bartlett man out of $800 on Feb. 8.

The complainant said someone claiming to work for UPS called him just before 1 p.m. that day, saying he had won a free gift and needed to send $800 in shipping fees.

He hung up the phone and immediately called the police. He also filed a complaint with UPS.

Feb. 9

Sunswept Drive (auto burglary)

A woman saw a suspect walk away from her home just after noticing her garage door was open on Feb. 9.

She said it was between 5:45 a.m. and 6:10 a.m. when she saw the woman get into a white car and leave.

The victim then drove toward work. On the way, she noticed her purse was missing from her passenger seat. She drove back home to look for it, where she found her purse placed in front of a door between her home and garage. She said she believes she knows the suspect.

The matter is under investigation.

Stage Road (theft)

A customer of Simoniz Car Wash (6800 Stage Road) reported on Feb. 9 that someone stole a weapon from his vehicle between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Feb. 5 while he was at the business.

The weapon was a black 9mm Kel-Tec handgun that had a loaded 12-round magazine with one round in the chamber. It was taken from a holster in side his 2005 Honda.

Stage Road (theft)

A customer at McDonald’s (6048 Stage Road) said someone stole his Acer laptop while he stepped away from his table briefly on Feb. 9.

He was retrieving property from his vehicle in the parking lot, and he left the laptop and his backpack at the table.

Restaurant surveillance footage showed a male adult and a male juvenile working together on the theft. They watched the victim leave, pickup his laptop and left on foot, walking west toward Walgreens (5950 Stage Road).

Officers saw two people matching the description enter Walgreens. They located the suspects in the men’s restroom. The officers retrieved the victim’s laptop, detained the suspects and arrested them.

At the time of arrest, the juvenile suspect was listed in the National Crime Information Center’s database as a runaway.

Feb. 11

Unspecified location (domestic incident)

A woman reported Feb. 11 that she was afraid her boyfriend had planted a gun in her car after a fight.

She said they were traveling through Memphis in her 2014 Dodge Charger on the way to the Internal Revenue Service’s office when they began fighting. There was no physical violence. She said he voluntarily exited the car and walked away.

The officer offered to check the trunk to ease her mind, and she agreed. The overwhelming odor of marijuana was evident once the trunk was opened.

A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed a chrome grinder that contained marijuana residue in the vehicle’s center console. There was a Zing-1000 scale that contained marijuana residue on the vehicle’s passenger front floorboard. The center console contained 18 and one-half pills of acetaminophen/hydrocodone (325 mg/10mg) wrapped loosely in aluminum foil.

The officer placed the woman in custody.

During efforts to search her purse, the officer also found two small baggies of marijuana with gross total weights of 2.4 grams and 1.4 grams, as well as $4,020 in cash.

In the car’s trunk, the officer also found three large clear plastic bags containing marijuana with gross total weights of 14 grams, 13.4 grams, and 12.1 grams wrapped up in miscellaneous clothes.

The car had another $135 in scattered cash. She said she was unemployed and had no explanation for the funds.

The officer discovered that her vehicle was purchased for cash in Tupelo, Miss., on Jan. 20. The officer determined that, because of the large amount of narcotics, the cash and car were proceeds from narcotics sales. The vehicle and the $4,155 in cash were seized, and the officer took the suspect to headquarters on charges.

Skylight Drive (vehicle complaint)

A man reported on Feb. 11 that his ex-wife took his vehicle without authorization.

He said he let her move back into the house a few weeks ago. On Feb. 6, she took his 2002 Black Toyota and hasn’t returned, he said.

He said that he doesn’t want to list the vehicle as stolen or pursue criminal charges but just wanted to document the incident in case something happens with his vehicle.

Feb. 12

Christoval Street (residential burglary)

Someone broke into a woman’s home between 7:15 p.m. and 9:21 p.m. Feb. 12 and stole $850 of belongings, the victim reported that night.

She said someone had pried open the rear window into her living room and stolen her 42-inch LG 42in TV with remote ($800), a pint of Patron ($25), and a pint of Casa Migos ($25). Her City of Bartlett trash can was also stolen from the curb.

The officer saw what appeared to be scratch marks on the inside of the window from where the lock was forced open.
