Lady Panthers wrap gifts for Lebonheur Hospital patients
For Bartlett Softball Coach Katie Maroon, team building comes in a number of ways.
“We were talking at a parents meeting about how we wanted the girls understand what it feels like to give back,” Maroon said about her team’s December program. “I mean the community’s given us so much, we wanted to do something for them.”
Ideas were passed around when one Bartlett player’s parent said she know someone at Lebonheur Hospital and was involved with the Forrest Spence Fund.
That fund was created by Dr. David Spence, his wife and daughter Brittany after the family lost their son Forrest in 2007. Monies go to provide non-medical support for patients, families and staff at Lebonheur.
Bartlett’s softball team went into action. More than 90 books, donated by an anonymous local business, were wrapped by the players and donated Dec. 20.
“We started small this year but we are definitely going to continue to do it,” Maroon said of her squads’ philanthropy.
