Survivors of ovarian cancer gathered at Debbie’s Flowers on Saturday morning to receive a gift of a teal orchid and celebrate life with a colorful balloon release.

The popular Ovarian Cancer Awareness Walk was cancelled for 2015, but shop owner Debbie Ellis wanted the survivors know they are always valued and celebrated.

She began the floral giveaways in honor of her friend, Tena Purcell Carraway Swatzyna. Her shop has continued giving the orchids for the past eight years.

Debbie’s Flowers offered the flowers and refreshments 9 a.m.-noon, and there was a balloon release at 11 a.m. The event included three door prizes.

The flower shop is at 2965 N. Germantown Road, Suite 108, Bartlett.

I wish I had know about the event. I would not have been able to attend because I had chemo a few days before and Saturday was one of my tired days. Thank you for hosting.

They hold it annually< I believe. I hope you flourish with your treatment and are able to enjoy it fully next year. Best wishes!
