Bartlett City Hall’s planned renovations will make it easier for citizens to follow discussions in public meetings and will improve the look and function of the lobby, mayor’s office and adjacent areas.
The $45,200 design contract was awarded at the board’s Sept. 22 business meeting.
No date has been set yet for the actual construction work to begin, but architect Ben Witt explained that the back-and-forth process of designing and client reviews will take a few months before final approval and letting bids on the project. His firm, Ross Witt PLLC of Bartlett, landed the design contract. He estimated that the actual renovations are unlikely to begin before the new year.
Renovations include:
- A redesigned dias in the main public meeting area of city hall, the Council Chambers for the mayor and city board.
- Enhancing the audiovisual system in the Council Chambers to add monitors, allowing the public to more easily view the items being presented and discussed.
- Remodeling of the rotunda (lobby) and the area where residents pay their water bills. The goal is to enhance security, storage and traffic flow. This part of the project also includes the floor installation of a large city seal.
- Renovation of public restrooms in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Changes to the front area of the mayor’s office for greater security.
Other business
The Bartlett city board also:
- Approved a special event permit for New Home Christian Church’s Fallapalooza. The event will be 3-6 p.m. Oct. 25 at the church.
- Approved the site plan, grading and erosion control contract for a project at Fullview Missionary Baptist Church. The church will pay $6,901.23 in city fees, and the bond is set at $64,855.
- Accepted the lowest bid for a four-wheel-drive front-deck mower for Public Works. The bid was of $20,300 was from Barton Equipment.
- Accepted the lowest bid to replace three heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) units at the Bartlett Performing Arts and Conference Center. National HVAC Service had the lowest bid at $15,490.
- Accepted the state bid price to replace four mowers in Parks Maintenance. Insurance recovery will be used to offset the cost of $38,760. The vendor is Bartlett Small Engines.
- Awarded a contract for survey/design work to lower a hill that is east of the Ellis and new Bruns-wick intersection. The contract for $49,300.98 went to Pickering Firm, with an additional contingency amount of $699.02, for a total cost of $50,000.
- Accepted a bulletproof vest partnership grant of $2,680.25 from the U.S. Department of Justice’s FY15 programs.
- Approved a routine resolution to open a deposit account with SunTrust Bank and authorize transactions related to proceeds from the city’s 2015 general obligation bonds.
Approved Krispy Kreme Doughnuts’ revised sign package in an appeal of an earlier decision by the Design Review Commission. The donut shop will be located at 6072 Stage Road.
