Arlington Middle School launched a 1:1 iPad Pilot program for four treachers and 163 very happy and excited students in the sixth grade.
All were issued an iPad to use in the classroom and at home.
Through this pilot, students are provided with the opportunity to communicate, collaborate, create, and extend and expand classroom learning.
Students will learn to utilize a variety of educational and productivity tools and apps while gaining the skills needed to become responsible digital citizens.
The teachers in the program began their training during the summer and are receiving ongoing support to integrate the device in the classroom.
Educators have stressed the importance of the iPad not just as a device — but the focus of it as a learning tool that must be used intentionally in relation to teaching and learning.
The school district’s press release stated, “The pilot’s main goal is to expand so that teaching and learning can take place outside the four walls of a classroom. To make this happen and to make sure our instruction remains purposeful, our commitment is to keep our teachers in ongoing professional development to keep them updated on current trends with technology so that can be shared with the students. In the future, ACS hopes to use the lessons learned from the pilot to expand the 1:1 program to include additional students and grade levels.”
