Bartlett High School Band wins top honors at Sept. 19 invitational

The Bartlett High School Band brought home top scores in all categories when they competed at the Sept. 19 Crockett County Marching Invitational.

For the event, held in Almo, Tenn., they performed their show, “Infamy,” about the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. The first movement, “Saturday Night,” includedfamous songs from the era to represent the night before the attack.

In the second movement, “Sunday Morning,” they played a march with military hymns, imediately followed by, “The Attack,” a seqence with songs featuring traditional Japanese folk songs.
The last movement, “In Memorium,” consisted of the national anthem and other traditional American songs.

In the first big win at a marching band contest in 10 years, they earned these honors:

  • First place, Class AAAA Field Commander
  • First place, Class AAAA Percussion
  • First place, Class AAAA Auxiliary
  • First place, Class AAAA Band
  • First place, Upper Division Field Commander
  • First place, Upper Division Percussion
  • First place, Upper Division Auxiliary
  • First place, Upper Division Band
  • Overall Best Soloist Award, Rebecca Alberson
  • Upper Division Grand Champion
  • The band was directed by Dwight Dodd and assisted by Sheila Dodd, Sara Ray, Jeremy Shrader and David Dickens.

Their Field Commanders are Rebecca Alberson, Tyler Kohr and Nick Miller.
