Officials stay mum on details about Sept. 2 Goodwill raid

goodwill-pic1-Sept2015Officials have not yet released details about the raid federal agents conducted at the Bartlett-area Goodwill on Sept. 2.

A U.S. Attorney’s Office spokesman said it is an ongoing investigation and no information will be released at this time. The Memphis Police Department, which assisted in the raid, also had no comment.

The facility at 6895 Stage Road, Memphis, has remained in operation, even during the raid.
Tony Martini, CEO and president of Memphis Goodwill Industries Inc., issued a statement on Sept. 3, saying the event was related to Goodwill’s federal government contracts to employ local residents, including those with disabilities.

“On our end, we’ve worked tirelessly to address their concerns and get things right-tracked, and we’ll continue to do so,” Martini said.

He continued, “I do want to reiterate that this has in no way affected our general operations, including donations, store operations, the Excel Center, jobs centers and contracts.”
