graduate - happyThe following colleges and universities have announced recent scholarships, academic honors and graduations for Mid-South students.

Scholarships

Taylor Selby of Lakeland has been selected to receive an ICMA-RC Public Employee Memorial Scholarship. She will attend Mississippi State University and expects to graduate in 2019.

These scholarships are presented annually to surviving children and spouses of firefighters, police officers, and other public employees who have died in the line of duty. George Selby Jr. died in the line of duty while serving the Shelby Company Sheriff’s Department. The ICMA-RC Memorial Scholarship Fund Board of Directors presented 36 scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year to recipients from 17 different states.

ICMA-RC is a non-profit independent financial services corporation.

Honors

Alexa Walker of Arlington has been named to the spring 2015 dean’s list for Creighton Univer-sity in Omaha, Neb. She is a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences. Eligible students must earn a 3.5 grade-point average or better on a 4.0 scale.

Monica Dickerson and Peyton Murin, both of Arlington, have been named to the spring 2015 dean’s list for Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) in Harrogate, Tenn. Eligible students must be full-time undergraduates and have a 3.5 grade point average for the semester.

Katherine McCaffery of Arlington has been named to the spring 2015 dean’s list for the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. She is a student in the College of Arts & Sciences. To qualify for the dean’s list, an undergraduate degree-seeking student must earn a minimum of a 3.5 GPA for the semester.

Cameron Bowman of Bartlett was recognized for outstanding academic achievement and earned dean’s list recognition for the spring 2015 semester at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Eligible cadets must be registered for 12 or more semester hours and have grade point averages of 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester’s work.

Graduations

Westerm Govenor’s University (WGU) Tennessee recently held its second commencement, and 15 Shelby County graduates received degrees at the ceremony. They included Evans Duvall of Bartlett, bachelor of science degree in business – information technology management; Donald Jacobsen of Bartlett, master of business administration (MBA) degree in healthcare management; Shannyn Stuart of Bartlett, bachelor of science degree in nursing; Amy Sutton of Arlington, bachelor of science degree in nursing; and Jason Sutton of Arlington, bachelor of science degree in business – information technology management.

For this group of graduates, the average time to graduation for bachelor’s degrees was 2 years, 7 months. The average time to complete graduate degrees was 1 year, 8 months.
