The Bartlett Police Department (BPD) handled the following incidents for June 15-21.
Editor’s note: All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and values are estimated for stolen/damaged items. These are brief summaries of detailed BPD reports.
June 15
Baudette Lane (motor vehicle theft)
A man reported June 15 that his 2006 Ford F-150 pickup was stolen from his driveway on Baudette Lane. He last saw it around 10:30 p.m. June 14 and discovered it was missing around 5 a.m. June 15.
The truck was unlocked, and the keys were on the front driver’s seat.
Barwick Drive (theft)
A woman reported on June 15 that someone stole her purse from the front seat of her unlocked car while it was parked at her home on Barwick Drive. She said she came home from work around 6:30 p.m., visited a neighbor and returned at 8 p.m. to find her purse gone.
June 16
Jeffrey Keith (open door/aggravated burglary)
A woman reported returning to her Jeffrey Keith home after a vacation on June 16 and finding that her interior garage door was open.
Almost all of the interior rooms and the attic had been ransacked, and several items were destroyed. This includes extensive damage to the kitchen (kitchen cabinets/refrigerator/stove/walls, bathrooms (shower/mirrors/ counter tops), bedrooms (walls/furniture), and living room and family rooms (walls/fireplace/ wall vents).
The total amount of damage to the interior and furniture is about $40,000.
The rooms not damaged included a downstairs bathroom and an upstairs bedroom and bathroom.
Broadway (theft from vehicle)
On June 16, a Broadway resident reported that someone had stolen $338 in cash from her wallet, which she had left in her unlocked car.
She discovered the theft around 9:15 a.m. and said she last saw the cash around 5 p.m. the previous night. The car was in the driveway toward the back of the house.
Nothing else was missing, but someone had turned off the light in her garage, she said.
June 17
Christoval Street (burglary)
A woman returned home around 9 a.m. June 17 to find her home had been burglarized.
The previous night, her air conditioning unit wasn’t working, so she went to her sister’s house around 7:30 p.m. She found that someone had used a field stone from her front flower bed to break out the kitchen window on the rear of the house ($500).
Items stolen included a black Sony 40-inch flat screen TV ($1,000) and her black Sony DVD player ($60). The victim also said her bedroom was ransacked and her jewelry was scattered on the bed.
U.S. 64 (theft from motor vehicle)
Someone burglarized a man’s truck June 17 while he was in Firebirds restaurant (8470 U.S. 64).
He entered the restaurant around 1:20 p.m. and returned about an hour later. Someone had tampered with the keyhold on the front driver’s side door, and he found an unfamiliar screwdriver on the front seat.
Items stolen included a gold wedding ring, a tactical vest, three rifle magazine, with approximately ninety rounds of ammo, and one tactical mask. Estimated value of all items stolen is $11,620.
Ackerman Drive (theft)
A witness reported seeing someone steal yard equipment from a home on Ackerman Drive the afternoon of June 17.
The suspect was a black male with a “high and tight” haircut, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and wearing a white T-shirt.
The witness said the suspect left a blue van, entered a carport and took a red-and-black weed trimmer. When the witness confronted the suspect, he said he was taking the item.
The victim said the trimmer was a red and black Troy-Bilt model with a broken guard ($160).
June 18
Beagle Trail (taking vehicle without permission, possible drunk driving)
A man reported June 18 that his stepson, 16, has been taking his Chevy Tahoe at night after he and his wife go to bed at their home on Beagle Trail.
The man said the boy took the vehicle from the driveway on June 17 around 10:30 p.m. and took it to “the bottoms” after picking up friends. The stepson has even gone as far as Munford at night, and the stepfather worries that he is drinking and driving.
The man said the stepson has admitted doing this several times and has also been in trouble at Bartlett High School for stealing.
The stepfather said he contacted police because he doesn’t know what else to do.
June 20
Briarly Lane (theft from motor vehicle)
A woman reported that someone entered her vehicle and stole several items between midnight June 19 and 1:30 a.m. June 20. The vehicle, a black Chevy Tahoe, was left unlocked in the driveway of her residence on Briarly Lane.
Stolen items include an American Express credit card, a Barclay’s credit card, a Victoria’s Secret credit card, her Tennessee driver’s license, and approximately $60 of change.
She discovered the theft after getting a text alert from American Express about her card’s use.
One successful transaction was for $48 at Finish Line, and another to an unknown vendor was declined because of possible fraudulent use.
The victim said she believes both transactions were attempted online. At the time of the report, none of the other stolen cards had been used, and they have since been cancelled.
U.S. 64 (assault)
Officers arrested a man June 20 after getting a report he assaulted a woman at the Bartlett Walmart Supercenter (8400 U.S. 64).
The report was about a white male wearing a white shirt and khaki pants forcibly grabbing a black female on the buttocks while she was bent over.
Security advised the responding officer the suspect left the store and got into a white two-door truck with a Mississippi tag. The officer caught up with the suspect and got an identification on him. While the man was detained, he said the incident was an accident and that he apologized for touching her. He was arrested and transported to Bartlett City Jail.
