logo-youhavethepowerMEMPHIS, Tenn. — “You Have the Power,” a Tennessee victim advocacy group, will hold a free “lunch and learn” on sexual assault prevention presentation at the Urban Child Institute (600 Jefferson Ave # 200, Memphis) on May 14.

The event will be from noon to 1:30 p.m., and lunch will be provided courtesy of the Sigma Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. The event is open to the public.

Attendees will learn how to identify signs of inappropriate behavior, report suspected behavior, and become aware of available resources and tactics for prevention. This program is funded under an agreement with the state of Tennessee and is underwritten by a grant from the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA).

Opening the discussion will be a viewing of “I Never Thought It Was Rape,” a documentary produced by “You Have the Power” and featuring testimony from several survivors of sexual assault. Following the documentary will be a panel discussion in which attendees will be able to ask questions of local law enforcement and experts, including Anna Whalley (Shelby County Crime Victim Services), Deborah Clubb (Memphis Area Women’s Council), Rachel Sumner (Restore Corps), Oliver Williams (the Hope Center), and a local survivor of sexual assault.

Attendees are encouraged to register because space is limited. See the registration link online at yhtp.org/2015/02/memphis/.
