Saxophonist to screen March 29 ‘docu-musical’
CORDOVA, Tenn. — Grammy award-winning recording artist Kirk Whalum will present the highly anticipated new “The Gospel According To Jazz Chapter IV” docu-musical on March 29 at Hope Church (8500 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova).
Whalum elevates his award-winning “Gospel According To Jazz” series to a new level with the live-recorded double CD set featuring the best in gospel music, contemporary jazz, and urban music.
The double-disc album and docu-musical feature Braun, Brown, Gibbs, Shelea, John Stoddart, Gerald Veasley, Kevin Whalum and Kenneth Whalum III. Special guests include Marcus Finnie, Braylon Lacy, Ralph T. Lofton, Kevin Turner and Kortland Whalum.

‘Wedding Singer’ opens today with SBA stars
CORDOVA, Tenn. — St. Benedict High School at Auburndale will stage “The Wedding Singer” March 26-29.
Performances are at 7 p.m. except for the 2:30 p.m. matinee.
All performances will be at 8250 Varnavas Drive, and tickets are $15 at the door.
The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room. Based on the hit Adam Sandler movie, “The Wedding Singer” has a sparkling new score that does for the ’80s what Hairspray did for the ’60s. Just say yes to the most romantic musical in 20 years.
It’s 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party, until his own fianceé leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. As luck would have it, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, his dream girl will be gone forever.
The production will be very student driven with choreography, assistant directing, stage managing, designing, multimedia projection, instrumentalist and, of course, performance duties all handled by SBA Eagles in grades 9-12.
SBA won won Best Overall Production last year at the Orpheum High School Musical Theatre Awards and plans to continue a high-quality theatrical tradition with “The Wedding Singer.”
