ARLINGTON — The District 14-3A Basketball Tournament kicked off today in Arlington with four play-in games.
The two Millington teams took to the court in the night session with the Trojans taking on the Bartlett Panthers and the Lady Trojans facing the Bolton Lady Wildcats.
Behind the hot shooting of Heaven Thompson the Lady Wildcats were able to beat Millington 45-27. Then the boys took the court with the game tied at 10-10 midway in the first quarter. The Panthers led 18-12 after 8 minutes.
The score was 18-16 early in the second quarter when Bartlett used a 16-0 run sparked by the shooting of Jonathan Bowlan to pull away with a 79-67 victory. But the highlight of the night came from Trojan junior Kelvin Jones in the second half.
The forward took to the air for a one-hand power slam over a Bartlett defender sending the Arlington Gymnasium crowd into a frenzy.
The Panthers and Lady Wildcats advance to the district semifinals tomorrow starting at 3 p.m. There will be four games Saturday featuring both Bolton, Arlington, Cordova and Bartlett teams. All have qualified for next week’s Region 7-3A Tournament.
