Several authors from the greater Memphis area have new books on the shelves or local book signing opportunities:
Jimmie L. Powell of Memphis will have a signing of his book, “Autobiography of a Kid Named Jimmie,” at 1-3 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Qahwa Coffee Bar (109 N. Main St., Memphis). It focuses on a boy and his large 14-member family as they survived in the projects. Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises (Nov. 14, 2014).
- Dr. Andrew Hynes, previously of Memphis, who wrote, “Puritans and Salvation: The 17th Century Puritan Approach to Man’s Salvation,” which attempts to enlighten readers on the Puritan movement and how it ultimately leads men to salvation. Hynes teaches for Union University and Baptist College of Florida, where he serves as the director of international ministries for catalyst missions. Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises (Jan. 20, 2015).
- Danny Cosby of Memphis, who wrote, “Heroin Jesus,” his account of drug abuse and his religious salvation. Today, he sings on the worship team of one of the largest churches in the state and goes to prisons, homeless shelters, schools and support groups to testify. Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises (Dec. 30, 2014).
- Rebecca Webb Wilson of Memphis, who wrote, “Well Seasoned: Savoring Life’s Lessons (Inspire on Purpose).” The book combines quotes, poetry tidbits, and the author’s observationswith her photography of nature, humanity, and her travels to Mount Kilimanjaro, the Swiss Alps part of the Haute Route, the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, and more. In her youth, Rebecca fed her wanderlust with a job as a stewardess for PanAm. After a brief stint as a realtor, she attended law school at the University of Memphis and served several years as an Assistant United States Attorney. She later became involved with the Memphis Zoological Society and also founded a youth leadership program in Memphis called Bridge Builders. She lives in Memphis with her husband and they share their time between two sons, two daughters, and nine grandchildren. Published by Inspire on Purpose Publishing (Sept. 28, 2014).
