William and Miriam Roberts were married on April 30, 1949, in Fort Gaines, Ga. They were introduced by Miriam’s mother at the Ozark, Ala., Community Center in November 1948.
Bill worked 22 years for Singer Sewing Machine Co., which allowed the family to live in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and finally Tennessee, when they moved to Bartlett in 1972 and lived there until 1988. They then moved to a 178-acre farm in Slaydon, Miss., and lived there until 1996. Then they sold the farm and moved to a house they built in Byhalia, Miss., just south of Collierville, Tenn.
Since Bill’s retirement from Singer in 1972, he has worked in retail jewelry and currently still works part time with Bob Richards Jewelry in Germantown.
Miriam was a homemaker raising four children and helping raise three granddaughters, and for years she ran a day care center in their home. In addition, she was very active in her church and community, especially taking care of the elderly.
They have four children, Will (JoAnn), Richard, Lowell (Kim) and Carol (Dan) and three granddaughters, Cassie Roberts Alexander, Carson Byrd and Christina Byrd.
They are active members of the Germantown Church of Christ, where a reception and dinner was held in their honor on March 15, 2014, by their children, grandchildren and friends.
