St. Ann Bartlett has two new state champions from the Knights of Columbus State Free Throw Championships held recently in Nashville. At left is Natalie Spiva, 10, and at right is Grace Franklin, 14, each of whom brought home the titles in their respective age divisions. In the middle is Matthew O’Kane, who made 18 of 25 free throws to finish second in the nine-year-old boys’ division in his first trip to state competition. Franklin, an eighth-grader, was the state runner-up in 2013 and had to advance again through the council competition in January, the district competition in February, and the regional competition in March to reach this year’s state finals. Spiva, a fifth-grader, also dominated the competition in her age bracket to reach her first state final. Both Franklin and O’Kane attend St. Ann Catholic School. Spiva is a parishioner at St. Ann Catholic Church and participates in its sports program. Photo by Doug Franklin
