The Bartlett High School Athletic Department has announced this year’s Senior Scholar-Athletes and Athletes of the Year.

Scholar-Athletes of the Year: Hannah Rouse and Nathan Johnson

Hannah Rouse played on the varsity tennis team for the past four years. She has been one of the top six players since ninth grade and always displays true sportsmanship whether winning or being beaten by a more skilled player.

Hannah recently graduated third of 530 in her class with a 4.60 GPA while taking 12 AP classes during her time as a Panther. She is a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Key Club and Student Council. She also co-founded the High School Democrat Club at Bartlett High. She is headed to Pepperdine University in the fall.

Nathan Johnson has been a member of the varsity football team since his sophomore year. He is a three-year starter who capped off his senior season by being voted 1st Team All-Region Tight End by the opposing coaches in the region. Nathan’s teammates voted him captain on this year’s team because of his hard work, dedication and leadership both in the classroom and on the football field.

Nathan recently graduated ranked 35th in his class with an overall GPA of 4.5, including numerous AP and Honors classes.

He has been a member of the Beta Club, the National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Bartlett High School for two years.

Athletes of the Year: Chrissy Jensen & Gabe O’Callaghan

Chrissy Jensen ran cross-country and track for Bartlett High for four years and quickly became one of the best distance runners in the area. She was named Best of Preps for Cross-Country during the 10th and 11th grades and has served as team captain for the past two seasons. In cross-country she held the record at Bartlett High School, and her personal record is 20:45 (5K).

In track, she proved to be a versatile runner who can excel from the 400-meter to the 3,200-meter. Injuries set her back during track season for her junior year, but she worked hard and got back to form during this past year’s cross-country season.

She and her 4×800 teammates also qualified for the Tennessee State Championship meet in Murfreesboro.

When she is not running, she is hard at work in the classroom as evidenced by her 4.53 GPA and her graduation rank of ninth in her class. She was recently notified that she is receiving the Ned McWherter Scholarship, which is awarded to only 70 of the 1,800 applicants.

Gabriel “Gabe” O’Callaghan moved to Bartlett his sophomore year of high school, and in three short years has become a three-times varsity letterman, two-times Region Champion (106 lbs. in 2017 and 113 lbs. in 2018), and folkstyle state runner-up. He also earned two state championships in the 106 lb. division in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling in 2017.

In his senior season, he had a record of 45-3, raising his career record to 110-25. He also led the team and tied the school record with 29 pins, while setting a new school record in 3-point near-falls.

He accomplished all of this while serving as one of the team’s captains and reaching Adidas National’s All-American status.
