People who pitch in are the ones who make a city run smoothly, and that includes those who donate their spare time to the City of Bartlett.
Two volunteers, Ron Sandlin and Russ Abernathy, were honored with The Jeanette Rainey Volunteer of the Year Award at an April reception.
Sandlin has served on the Planning Commis-sion for the city since 1988. He has served under three different mayors and has served as both chairman and vice chairman over the years.
In a statement released by City Hall, Sandlin was praised as someone who serves the city well as a leader towards its growth and development.
The statement noted, “His eye for detail, concern for citizen input and his unique understanding of development is an asset to our community. His dedication and contributions are an outstanding example of public service.”
Abernathy has served on the Board of Zoning Appeals for the city since 2003 and has gone above and beyond to be a good ambassador for Bartlett.
A City Hall statement noted, “He is well prepared for each meeting and encourages discussion among other board members when considering a matter to vote on. He performs his duties with professionalism and is friendly and polite to everyone he encounters. His dedication and participation is exemplary and worthy of this recognition.”
A Bartlett spokesman said the city appreciates these two citizens as well as all of the many other volunteers who generously share their time to make the city a great place to live and work.
