Bartlett Express readers picked a hometown business owned by a Bartlett native for two honors in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards. Hometown Capital Group won as Best Overall Industry and also as the Best Mortgage or Title Company.

REVISED IOTY-logo-2017Owner Todd Robertson said, “I’m honored to be nominated and chosen as the best Mortgage Company in Bartlett. I’ve lived in Bartlett my whole life, for 40 years. So I like to be able to serve and be recognized by the community.”

He has worked in the industry since 2000, and he opened his own business in 2005. He incorporated it in 2008, a year that makes many in the housing industry wince, as that was when the recession hit hard. But Robertson shrugs off a mention of the recession, saying, “It’s never really been that hard for me. I’m a small operation, so it’s not as hard to survive.”

He is a mortgage broker, and he employs a few part-time originators and a full-time processor. Robertson prides himself on customer service and said he often can offer the consumer a better choice for mortgage programs. “I deal with non-bank wholesale mortgage lenders, so typically my rates and my costs are usually an eighth to a quarter percent less than banks and nationwide mortgage companies.”

Hometown Capital Group is an independent and privately owned company.

“That’s the huge factor that sets me apart from everybody else,” he said. “If you go to a bank or a nationwide mortgage company, you’ve got a choice of maybe A, B and C. I have a wide variety of loan products. I work with customers with a credit score as low as 600, and banks won’t touch you if you’re not a 640 or 660.”

Robertson continued, “The No. 1 thing is I’m local. I’m always a phone call away. I reply back to everybody within a few hours. No call or message or email goes unresponded in under 24 hours.”

All of Hometown Capital Group’s mortgages are under 30 days for the loan to close, he said.

“I’ve streamlined the process to make it simple for customers and clients. That helps me maintain a good referral-based business.”

Customers have told him they appreciate his responsiveness, his 17 years’ experience and his ability to answer questions quickly and authoritatively.

“I make the transaction smooth,” Robertson said. “That’s the biggest thing. That’s why people like to use me.”

Robertson also emphasizes that his company is debt-free and operates honestly. “I put everything out there. What you see is what you get. No hidden fees, no hidden costs, no workaround, no bait and switch.”

Hometown Capital Group has an A+ rating with zero complaints at the Better Business Bureau in Memphis.

Selecting his hometown for his business was a natural for Robertson. He loves the city, went to Bartlett High School and lives in the historical district.

“My roots are here in Bartlett,” he said. “I just feel like I know the people.”
