Bartlett residents, business owners and city employees were sweeping water out of their buildings or calling their insurance agents after last week’s rapid flooding damaged walls, floors, carpets and belongings.
Mike Adams, assistant director of Bartlett public works, said the city got 7.35 inches of rain in a two and one-half hour period on Sept. 11. Water rose waist deep in some spots, filling up spots on Stage Road and Bartlett Boulevard in particular.
“It was just absolutely more than any system could take,” he said. “I think the National Weather Service declared it a 1,000-year weather event.”
Wade Towles, assistant city engineer, estimated on Tuesday that about 40 Bartlett homeowners have reported damages to date.
